From iconic winemaker Roberto Conterno, (one of the greatest names in all of Piemonte) comes an incredible bargain for lovers of Nebbiolo! Conterno’s Barolos will run you a pretty penny, with the Cascina Franci and Cerreta about $300-$350, and his Monfortino $850-$1000+ per bottle. But if you want a glimpse of what this great grower is capable at a fraction of the price, this is your wine!
Once this gifted winemaker took over the winery in 2018 the die was cast. Nervi-Conterno’s wines will become some of the most sought after wines in the region, and the prices have already tripled since Roberto took over.
With a history back to the 1600s, and holdings in some of the Gattinara’s best vineyards (Molsino, Valferana, Garavoglie, and Casacce), this wine is a masterpiece of pure northern Nebbiolo expression, and hands down worth every bit of its $125 srp.
But at our sale price this price, it is a stone cold bargain, easily earning its 100 Point Cree Wine score!
It leads off with loads of aromatic dried cherry, matched by a stony, focused tension from its origin in volcanic soil rich in minerals and clay. It is also quite complex, with deep fruit that bursts out of the glass, onto your palate, and unfoldsthrough the long, lingering finish. It is aged for three years in large oak casks before release, allowing the wine to become integrated and harmonious on release. Drink this now and over the next decade as you watch the price of these wines sky rocket.
