Davide Fregonese Description

Aroma of withered flowers, blackberry jam, then cocoa and licorice. Dense and captivating taste, solid body, balanced and persistent flavor Freshness, subtle and elegant tannin texture and clean a finish.

Fermentation in concrete tanks in contact with skins about 28 days. Daily pumping over and a delestage at half way point. Aging from 18 to 30 months depending on the vintage, in large 15 hl Fontainbleau Forest oak barrels.

Davide Fregonese, as many native Piemontese do, had dreamt of producing Barolo wines for many years: “Returning to the starting point can become an exciting trip. At least for me it was as such: after 25 years of different experiences around the world, I rediscovered a deep sense of belonging to my homeland, along with a strong call from my roots in Piedmont and my most authentic passions. In the Langhe area, among vineyard masters, eno-gastronomic excellences and ancient wine traditions, my dream has begun to shape up.

Good fortune helped to make that dream a reality when two small plots came up for sale in two of Barolo’s most coveted MGAs. One, a 0.6 Ha plot in the sought after Cerretta vineyard (alongside Giovanni Rosso, whose friendship was instrumental and inspirational), famed for producing one of the more powerful styles of Barolo Serralunga from richer soils. The second parcel, a 0.6 Ha plot in Prapò – a vineyard that abuts Cerretta to the south, where the soil becomes whiter and clearer, ideal for making some of Serralunga’s more profound and elegant Barolos. Both Barolo wines are made at Davide’s dear friend Giovanni Rosso’s cellar in the heart of Serralunga d’Alba, with the care and guidance of Davide Rosso, Giovanni’s nephew, who works alongside Fregonese in both the vineyards and the cellar.
