If you love top tier 1er Cru Chassagne, Meursault and Puligny but not the price this is your wine!
Cottenceau’s 2018 Montagny 1er Cru Les Bassets is from grapes grown in a lieu-dit (single vineyard site) that is named for the fossil-laden limestone soils where the vines have their roots.
There is no doubt that this is one of Burgundy’s rising stars. In January, when asked who are some of his favorite up and coming producers, William Kelly of the Wine Advocate wrote “Maxime Cottenceau, who worked with Vincent Dureuil for a few years, I think is going to be a serious guy.” He went on to write “While it's my practice to review the wines of the Côte Chalonnaise in the spring, I'd heard so much about Maxime Cottenceau that I couldn't bring myself to wait until then.”
“Unfurling in the glass with scents of pear, crisp green apple, white flowers and mint, it's medium-bodied, racy and incisive, with fine concentration in this generous vintage, concluding with chalky back-end grip” William Kelly, The Wine Advocate.
As if that wasn’t enough to make us sit up and take notice, Kelly continued, noting everything from his farming methods to his winemaking technique, noting that in 2018 “Maxime has crafted whites of depth and concentration, as well as considerable charm.”
