There is no doubt that the Sauvignon Blanc grape rises to one of its highest expressions in the eastern Loire Valley regions of Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé. Here the limestone, flint and clay soils conspire with a perfect cool, continental climate to create white wines of amazing brilliance, detail and racy, mineral focused intensity. The Domaine Arnaud Et Stephanie Dezat has perfectly captured the essence of this great terroir.
We tasted this a few months ago and were blown away - It’s clean, crisp, and finely tuned on the palate, with hints of green apple and gooseberry fruit, citrus notes, all balanced with crisp acidity and an underlying minerality that gives it beautiful tension from start to finish.
It is perfect with all kinds of lighter fare - seafood, shellfish, oysters, crudo, ceviche, shrimp, sole, flounder, fluke, salads, chevres and other goat cheeses, and so much more.
About the Winery - Dezat is one of the oldest winegrower families in the Sancerre area, with history dating back to the 16th century. André Dezat took over the family business in 1948, and his sons Louis and Simon developed it, notably with the exploitation of the Pouilly Fumé appellation in the 80s, then Menetou-Salon in 2006. Today, siblings Stephanie and Arnaud Dezat, Louis' daughter and son, are running the estate in the township of Verdigny, continuing the family legacy and crafting exquisite, authentic wines that have made the reputation of "DEZAT" wines great for decades.
The Dezat winemaking philosophy is to produce wines that both reflect the region’s terroir as well as respect the land. Together, Stephanie and Arnaud manage 22.5 hectares (about 56 acres) across 3 appellations: Menetou, Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé.
They value the respect for nature through the HVE certification (underway), putting forward their lands, respecting its fauna and flora but also all the biodiversity that constitutes it.
