Samaroli began in 1968. One of the earliest independent whisky bottlers and the first non-English and non-Scottish whisky brand of its time. True to their Italian roots, unorthodox and unconventional flair guides them in their ceaseless pursuit to perfection. A dram of Samaroli is to be savored and enjoyed in a way that the product of a large commercial operation cannot be.

Although a bottle of Samaroli may indeed bear your favourite distillery’s name, you will be surprised. For it will be familiar but different. It will bring your senses alive with amusement and wonder. It will be full of character, opinionated and often quirky — but never boring.

Samaroli Description

Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky Distilled in 1996 From Glentauchers Distillery Bottled in Scotland in 2020.

Aromas and flavors of buttered almonds, hazelnut, honey and cereal. Very long, persistent and intriguing. Complex. Great character with a lasting and graceful taste. One of the best Single Malts we have ever tasted!

Glentauchers distillery is located nearly Craigellachie in Speyside. Their pear-shaped copper stills, distinctly visible form the road, produce a distinctly fruity spirit with an almost wine-like viscosity. Relatively long fermentation and slow distillation at play here. Built in 1898 by Charles Doig & Sons, Glentauchers was ideally situated on a main road, with a healthy water source, green surroundings and even a railway line adjacent. Today it remains a key player for multiple blended whisky brands, and is rarely seen as a single malt whisky.

When in 1897 James Buchanan and W.P. Lowrie, Blender in Glasgow, founded the Glentauchers Distillery Whisky boomed. Buchanan was not familiar with the processes of making Whisky, blending and selling it. But he was confident and determined and had chosen a very favorable place for the distillerie: It was next to a main road and the railway line was at the back that could be used by the construction of a siding. When James Buchanan & Co. Ltd became sole holder of Glentauchers in 1908 he already had become very successful with his Buchanan Blends. 1910 saw the merge of the Buchanan and Dewar groups and the company became part of the DCL (Distillery Company Limited).  In 1923-1925 extensive renovations were done. A steam engine was purchased in 1955, electricity installed in 1958 and four new stills installed in 1965/66. During the World War I the distillery was closed. In 1985 United Distillers took over Glentauchers and mothballed it again.

Allied Distillers acquired Glentauchers in 1989 and since then the distillery has been producing again. Allied Distillers became part of Pernod Ricard in 2005 and therefore Glentauchers today is under control of their British subsidiary Chivas Brothers.
