Vilmart & Cie looks back at a long history of grape growing and winemaking. It was founded as récoltant manipulant house in 1890 by Désiré Vilmart, in the village of Rilly-la-Montagne. Today, Laurent Champs, the fifth generation of the family, oversees the domaine. This is 80% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir from Rilly-la-Montagne 1er Cru and Blanches Voies, 55-year-old vines sélection massale — Limestone soils. No Malo, élevage 10 Months in barrique, sur latte 42 Months, dégorgement November 2019.
Vilmart & Cie traces its history back to 1890, and from the beginning, the house has always been a récoltant-manipulant, making champagne exclusively from estate-owned vines. Vilmart is a member of Ampelos, an organization that promotes organic and sustainable viticulture, and 5th generation winemaker Laurent Champs has never used any herbicides or chemical fertilizers since taking over the estate.
Rich and luscious, with aromas of orange blossom, mint, herbs and spice, this wine has fullness, complexity, and great depth of flavor. Highly Recommended
The 2016 Brut Grand Cellier d' Or is a gorgeous, ethereal Champagne that is all about grace. Floral and citrus notes abound in a weightless, translucent Champagne that has so much to offer. The 2016 is not an obvious wine at all, but rather a Champagne that dazzles with nuance and understatement. I loved it. Disgorged: July, 2020.
