This is a special single Cru Brunello from Val di Suga’s famed Poggio al Granchio, a beuatifukl, deep Brunello with the typical iron, earth and dusty berry and meaty notes of Sangiovese. It is packed with notes of red and dark fruit, cherry, redcurrant, blackberry, with mineral undertones and ripe solid tannins into a long lingering finish. From the great 2019 vintage, this will provide delicious drinking now with decanting, and for a decade or more to come. In stock now!

A rich magenta hue, the 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino Poggio Al Granchio is a serious wine that amplifies things further and will need some decanting if opening now. Forward with great aromas of graphite, black cherry liqueur, cracked pepper, sage, and porcini, it’s full-bodied yet weightless on the palate and has phenomenal concentration while remaining elegant all the way through, it offers plush, velvety tannins and mineral undercurrents while retaining wonderful purity and a seamless texture. This stunning wine deserves several years in cellar. Drink 2026-2046.

From a site with schistic galestro clay soils, the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Poggio al Granchio is definitely the most complete and complex of these new releases from 2019 by Val di Suga. Fruit comes from an 18-hectare vineyard located at 430 to 450 meters in elevation. The wine offers more oozing richness and concentration in line with the character of the vintage with sweet cherry, blackberry, toasted cumin seed and pressed rose. This estate does a good job of maintaining the freshness of Sangiovese. Some 12,000 bottles were made.

Val di Suga is part of the Angelini Wine Group and is managed by the charismatic Ettore Nicoletto, a market-savvy CEO. A recent rebranding effort has changed the labels and a new distribution network has been created. This estate farms a total of 52 hectares of vines.
