If you love Barolo but don’t have the patience or the cellar to store it for a decade, AND you don’t want to pay the price of today’s Barolo for your everyday red wine, we have the answer!
Today’s offer from Sylvio Grasso - a fantastic “Baby Barolo” - has classic Nebbiolo structure, dried cherry fruit, followed nervy focused intensity. It’s bright, beautiful, and lively from start to finish, with moderate tannins and lovely fruit all wrapped up in an affordable and ready to drink package!
It’s 100% Nebbiolo from the top notch village of La Morra, with grapes grown in its perfect clay and limestone soils. The Barolos from La Morra lean towards the more elegant side, and this gem of a wine perfectly captures the region’s style! Fermentation is in stainless steel with a maceration time of 5-6 days, with maturation in stainless steel for six months, plus three months in large oak casks, followed by six more in bottle before release. Don’t miss out, there’s not a ton of this available!
From the importer: "The Grasso family has been producing wine since 1927, but Federico Grasso only started bottling in 1980, and has “produced a bevy of sensational efforts over recent vintages” (Wine Advocate). His sophisticated, modern Barolos are particularly notable for avoiding excessive wood aromas; to this end, Grasso prefers to use large barrels rather than barriques for maturation, and uses less than 30% new wood even on his single-vineyard bottlings. The “Bricco Luciani”, which is located just above the “Gancia” vineyard, is soft, generous, classic La Morra, while the “Ciabot Manzoni” was described as “Godzilla-like” by the Wine Advocate, “multidimensional, compelling/prodigious… gigantic in scope and stature.”Dolcetto and Langhe Nebbiolo also exhibit exceptional lushness and ripeness, with superb purity of flavors and aromas, without wood aging."
