For years this tiny family winery has been one of my all time favorite “geek” wines, and I mean that in the very best sense of the word! It checks all the boxes - obscure, little known grape varety, from a tiny family winery in a backwater region where winemaking has quietly been going on with little or no hype or fanfare for centuries.

From the simple yet perfect label to its incredible dried fruit and spicebox aromas and flavors this screams authenticity, and everything I love about what I do!

A must buy in my opinion, and perfect for Easter! Wine making is traditional, no gimmicks, with long fermentations, 20 to 25 days, in stainless steel tanks. Maturation is 18 months in cask.

The result of all this is a beautiful wine with dried red fruits, spice, and earth notes. It is medium bodied (think Pinot Noir with more dired cherry that sweet red fruits), with moderate tannins and just a slightly rustic country red edge, but not tart or funky at all! Perfect with light meats - chicken, pork, veal, game birds, mushroom risotto, duck breast, burgers, or steak and frites for a classique Bistrot pairing - Easter ham or lamb work too! Open to taste starting today!

For generations the Domaine consisted of just about 2.5 acres of vineyard, making a minuscule 4000 bottles a year. Then in 1982 the family Teulier began to expand the vineyard, buying up prime parcels that frankly many were happy to sell. They installed a gravity flow cellar and a temperature controlled warehouse, and continued to buy and lease vineyard, planting on the best hillsides with slopes of up to 60-65 percent. The winery now has about thirty hectares, exclusively planted to the Mansois, the colloquial name for Fer Servadou, the only grape variety allowed in the AOC. The top wine is made from 50-80 year old vines! A little know gem you need to get to know! Cheers, Chris
