Stock the Cellar Now with a Classic to Drink Now and Over the Next Two Decades!
We've had both the Crozes-Hermitage and Hermitage Cuvee Emilie from this terrific winery open to taste all week at the wine bar and they have been a huge success, both offering superb value in their own category!
The reviews say it all - this deep dark Northern Rhone Syrah is packed with pureed cassis fruit, black olive tapenade and ground pepper notes, followed by lovely vanillan and oak compliments that are well integrated, finishing with ample but ripe tannins and a long, deep fruit note to match them. Drink it now with decanting, or stash it away and drink over the next two decades. With Chave and Jaboulet's Hermitage going for 2-3 times the price, this is a killer value!
95 Jeb Dunnuck - "Brought up all in new oak, the 2019 Hermitage Cuvée Emilie reveals a dense purple color as well as pure cassis and blackberry fruits, notes of scorched earth, graphite, crushed stone, and burning embers, full body, ripe, building tannins, and a great finish. It needs 4-5 years to integrate its oak, but this is a gorgeous Hermitage from this family run estate that should have 25+ years of overall longevity."
95+ The Wine Advocate - "The 2019 Hermitage Cuvee Emilie is a spice-laden beast of a wine. Basically black in the glass, it boasts soaring aromas of licorice, baking spices, cassis and black olives. Sourced largely from les Grandes Vignes and aged in 100% new French oak, it's full-bodied and broad-shouldered, yet supple, with ripe tannins oozing thickly across the palate and through the long, tactile finish. Give it five years to learn some table manners, then drink it over the next decade or so."
I get the impression that the wines of Domaine des Rémizières are often overlooked by wine collectors who head straight for Chave or Chapoutier when it comes to Hermitage. As the reviews here indicate, that would be a mistake. The Cuvée Emilie (rouge, a blend of Les Grandes Vignes and Les Rocoules) 2018 and 2019 are terrific, as is the Cuvée Autrement (100% Les Grandes Vignes). While I didn't taste the 2018 Cuvée Emilie Blanc, the 2019 is the finest example of that bottling I can recall. The brother-and-sister team of Christophe and Emilie Desmeure are hitting on all cylinders. In stock and open to taste - delivery available!
