Get a taste of liquid summer with this incredible rosé from the beautiful island of Corsica. Corsica has an incredible history of winemaking with the Phoenicians, Romans, and Greeks all having an influence. Its sunny Mediterranean climate had a reputation for making great wine for centuries. But like so many regions of Europe, the phylloxera aphid decimated Corsica's vineyards at the end of the 1800's. Two world wars, prohibition in the US, and the great depression put the final nails in the coffin of the region's wine trade.
But beginning in the 1960’s a viticultural rebound began when Algerian colonialists relocated to the island, and winemaking rebounded - but the focus was more on quantity and not quality. Fast forward to the 1970's when the UVA Corse (‘Corsican grape’) was founded to promote quality winemaking and protect and expand indigenous grapes that were grown there. This sparked a renaissance that continues to this day, with small family estates crafting some of the most unique and exciting wines on the market today! Today it is one of the hottest up and coming wine regions in the world.
Domaine Zuria's Aria Rosé is a perfect example of the electric quality of the wines made here. It is 100% Sciaccarellu, a local indigenous grape, and has quickly become one of my favorite rosés of the year! Pale salmon in color, with beautiful citrus fruits on the nose - orange blossom, lime, tangerine and rose petal all come to mind. All of these incredible aromas follow through on the palate in a mid-weight rosé with beautiful freshness, acidity, and focused fruit from start to finish. It is incredibly food friendly and versatile, perfect with salads, fish, charcuterie, cheeses, and of course all on its own on a warm afternoon. Open to taste starting tomorrow - in stock and ready for pick up, shipping or delivery. Cheers!
