The seventh generation Domaine Trapet Père et Fils is one of the greatest estates of Gevrey-Chambertin, with superb holdings in three of the top grand crus in the village, and a legacy of great wines that date back to their earliest days of estate bottling. While the family have been important vineyard owners in Gevrey-Chambertin since 1870, it was not until the 1960s that they began to bottle a majority of their production and offer their wines directly for sale to clients. By the late 1920s, Domaine Trapet had become one of the most important vineyard owners in all of Burgundy, being the single largest owner in the great vineyard of Chambertin at this time, and owning very large tracts of Latricières-Chambertin and Chapelle-Chambertin.

In the mid-1990s, Jean-Louis Trapet was among the first growers to implement biodynamic principles in the vines. As of 2009, the entire estate is demeter-certified. Today, the wines are made with an emphasis on elegance, purity and finesse.  The wines coming from Jean-Louis Trapet’s estate are in the top echelon in terms of aromatics, flavor complexity, expression of terroir, and aging potential. Like the man himself, there is an elegance, grace, and purity to the wines that is haunting and rare in a village where power dominates.

All in all, Domaine Trapet Père et Fils is at the top of their game, with Jean-Louis crafting wines that are as stunning as any in the great history of this long-respected Gevrey superstar.

Wine Advocate: 96-98 Points

The king of the cellar is the 2020 Chambertin Grand Cru, a magical wine in the making that unwinds in the glass with aromas of cherries, blackberries, rich soil tones, espresso roast, rose petals, licorice, oyster sauce and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it's seamless and complete, with huge concentration, lively acids and rich, velvety tannins, concluding with a long, resonant finish. Well-connected and well-heeled readers will derive immense pleasure in comparing the 2020 with the 2019 and 2018 renditions several decades from now.
