The Tradition from Domaine Giraud comes from vineyards in the southern part of Châteauneuf-du-Pape famous for its red clay soils and galets. From vines ranging in age from 50–80 years old, it is fermented in concrete and stainless steel tanks and while the Mourvedre and Grenache rests in concrete, the Syrah is aged in French oak barrels.
Blend: 60% Grenache, 35% Syrah, and 5% Mourvèdre
Attractive violet, raspberry and bergamot nose – a very pleasing, scented style. Soft, mouthfilling, concentrated and generous; this has an inner core of freshness that makes for an enjoyably lifted style. Lightly grippy tannins.
The classic cuvée from this great estate, the 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape Tradition checks in as 60% Grenache, 35% Syrah, and the balance Mourvèdre. Perfumed notes of blackberries, framboise, herbes de Provence, and pepper all shine in this medium-bodied, elegant, very pretty, nuanced Châteauneuf du Pape. I love its balance, it shows the fresher, focused style of the vintage, and it will evolve for a decade.
