Chris Cree MW - Value Score: 99 Points

“..laser focused, crisp, mineral, dry and racy - buzzing with energy, very low alcohol, and absolutely brilliant! The perfect summer wine for shellfish, mild fish, ceviche, crudo, sushi, goat cheeses, chevre of all kinds, salads, and more.” Chris Cree, Master of Wine

One of the questions I get often is “how do you find all these great little known wines and producers?” Well one way is to travel to Europe, by far the most fun but in fact the least productive - you can only see so many wineries a day.

The other is to attend trade shows both here and abroad, a major chore grinding through hundreds of rando wines looking for that needle in the haystack that meets our demanding requirements.

But mainly it is with our stable of small, independant importers and distributors that we have the best luck. Whether they bring the wines to us themselves, or bring the winemaker when they are visiting in the US, they are dialed in to what we are looking for.

It was a hangout for local winemakers, mostly producing the crisp mineral Muscadet wines the region is known for. But he noticed that almost all the winemakers weren’t drinking Muscadet. They were washing down platters of oysters and seafood with a wine he’d never seen, not a Muscadet made from Melon De Bourgogne grape, but an AOC Gros Plant made from Folle Blanche, a little known grape variety typically grown for the production of Armagnac and Cognac a few hundred miles to the south.

He ordered a bottle and was simply blown away - laser focused, crisp, mineral, dry and racy - buzzing with energy, very low alcohol, and absolutely brilliant with the heaping pile of oysters in front of him. Next day he went to the winery, tasted a few vintages, and a couple of months later there he was at Cree Wine, with his latest find.

We had the exact same reaction. “How much do you have?” was followed by “We’ll take it all.” And today we offer it to you, an incredible value and THE perfect summer wine for shellfish, shrimp, mild fish, ceviche, crudo, sushi, chevre and goat cheeses, salads, and more.
