We tried this last week and we were blown away! This is supple, silky left bank Bordeaux that showcases classic Pessac-Léognan character: Depth and concentration of blackberry, cassis, mint, pencil shavings, mocha and chocolate. It really showcases the terroir, with a soil composition consisting of heavy gravel with pockets of sand and some clay. Highly Recommended
A blend consisting of 64% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 16% Cabernet Franc. Concentrated with oak and black cherry, with a long finish. Concentrated and deeply extracted, the black cherry flavors add sweetness and depth through the mid-palate although the oak toasting is turned up pretty high, despite only using 25% new oak.
Since 1350 The water weheel of Bardins or Bardey has stood by the river l’Eau Blanche. The very old vineyard is well exposed with just enough slope to ensure a perfect natural drainage . We can find Chateau Bardins on the famous map from Pierre de Belleyme (1760). Château Bardins belongs to the Bernardy de Sigoyer’s family since 1903. Camille de Sigoyer was born in 1870 on the Island la Réunion. His son Christian and grand-son Yves have taken care about the propriety for long years. Today the grand grand children: Stella, Christol, Edith, work to develop Bardins. Stella looks after the vineyard and the winery, and Christol lives on the Island La Réunion and also sells the wine of Bardins around the world.
The 75 acres propriety is planted with 25 acres of vines. The average is 30 years. Chateau Bardins lies over subsoils of clay, sand, limestone and shelly sand. The respect of our environment is always one of the main topic of our activity. Since 2011, the winery is certified ISO 14001.
"In the glass, Château Bardins is simultaneously supple and tense, its velvety Merlot robe pulled snugly over a chiseled physique. Tannins are firm but not mean, suggesting lovely development with time in bottle as great classically minded Bordeaux must.
And, in the manner we so prize in Bordeaux, the wine ultimately feels devoid of artifice, charming the drinker via its refusal to blatantly flatter. Longtime fans of RWM’s special cadre of Left Bank growers will feel right at home with Stella Puel and Château Bardins." - Rosenthal
