Working on a tiny organically farmed vineyard in the heart of the Dundee Hills, Owner and winemaker, John Paul marches to the beat of his own drum. He’s very proud of his small production lineup of wines, as is he proud to be the first Oregon winery with a salmon-safe certification.
The favorite wine in his seven wine lineup is the “Clos Electrique”. An ode to Mersault, it’s a beautifully complex and fragrant Chardonnay that sees over two years of contact with the lees prior to bottling, giving it wonderfully autolytic characteristics. Brioche, honeysuckle and a vanilla yogurt creaminess highlight this one. It’s a complex Chardonnay and a great ode to White Burgundy.
"Cameron Winery's focus on sustainable farming demands a level of care and attention that is evident in every last drop of the wine they produce. John Paul started Cameron in 1984 after deciding he'd rather make wine than use his PhD in marine biochemistry. Now Cameron produces 3,000 to 4,000 cases of high quality, hand-crafted and sustainably-farmed wine a year. Part of Cameron's effort to farm sustainably is to operate as a non-irrigated vineyard, so the vine's roots grow deep into the Willamette Valley's iron rich soil and produce a wine unique to this part of the world.
Clos Electrique, the estate vineyard, is farmed organically, producing wine distinct to the terroir of the Dundee Hills. Each block of vines in the vineyard is planted to multiple clones, which increases the complexity of the resulting wines as well as offers great resilience to the vineyard. There is truly something about the Clos Electrique terroir that chardonnay loves, which is why Close Electrique Blanc is consistently one of the best wines to come out of Cameron." - Cameronwines.com
