It’s crazy how amped up the Cree Wine team gets when we find a valued price wine like this! Tasted back in late summer, it finally arrived this week and we were totally psyched when we tasted it on arrival! No need to write a novel or copious notes, this is simply an outstanding example of what a beautiful crisp, focused racy wine from the western reaches of the Loire Valley of France can be - and for so little money!

It’s 100% Melon de Bourgogne grape, from 25+ year old vines grown on gneiss and mica schist soils in the famed Sevre et Maine subregion of Muscadet. It’s organically farmed using no herbicides - no easy feat in this maritime climate so close to the stormy North Atlantic. Fermentation is in temperature controlled stainless-steel tanks for 6-12 months, on the lees (or  “Sur Lie”) to add complexity and depth to the middle palate.

The result? A mineral laden white wine that is PERFECT with all kinds of mild seafood or all on its own as an aperitif. Lovely saline hints, with cool green apple tinged fruit on the nose, lovely compact and detailed in the mid-palate, fresh and fine through the finish.

Serve this with chilled shrimp, oysters and clams on the half-shell, sole or flounder, sushi, or better yet, come in this weekend and try it with our seafood salad special created by Chef Kadon specifically to pair with this wine! It’s a delicately poached melange of clams, mussels, shrimp, and scallops, garnished with giardiniera, micro mizuna, Terre Nere Sicilian Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Yuzu - perfection!

We bring this in direct from the winery through our local importer, driving a hard bargain and passing on the savings to you! Stock up now for the holidays with one of my favorite white wines for the money! Cheers - Chris

Bedouet Vigneron Le Domaine Description

About the Winery - Henri Bedouet, born in 1899, a cooper and share-cropping wine-grower (sharing half of the harvest with the owner of the vineyards), took the first step of this journey with his wife Agathe. His son Henri, born in 1931, joined the journey in 1957. He began his career as a share-cropper, then began renting vineyards as a farmer in 1977. Alongside Marie-Jo, a native of the region, they continued the journey, always looking forward.

Michel, born in 1960, joined the journey in 1985, purchased the vineyards in 1990, and is still continuing forward. Following Sénèque’s magnificent quote – “It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that they are difficult” – he began converting the vineyard to organic agriculture in 2010; he harvested his first organic grapes in 2013.
