Anne-Sophie Dubois makes some of the most Burgundian Gamay we’ve ever tried. Period.
Anne Sophie grew up in Champagne and cut her winemaking teeth in Volnay. Those early experiences as well as her fondness for the wines of the revered Henri Jayer greatly influenced her approach to winemaking. Most Cru Beaujolais traditionally utilizes whole clusters and semi-carbonic fermentation, a method that endows the wines with tell-tale fruity qualities.
Her approach of de-stemmed Gamay and traditional Burgundian fermentation provide more structure and definition than the norm. While her wines retain a fresh and bostrious fruit profile, they are uncommonly structured and focused. It’s a style we absolutely love. The wines are reminiscent of Gevrey-Chambertin; intense yet elegant, w/ blackberry, lavender, and strawberry flavors with a silky texture and soft tannins. Add that to the unique, pink granite mineral profile of Fleurie: Amazing.
Formely known as `Clepsydre' now re-named and carrying the name of its lieu dit starting with the 2017 vintage.
Whereas previously the wine was a selection of the oldest fruit, Anne-Sophie has decided to take the selection one step farther and make it a selection of the best fruit from the old vine parcel. Les Labourons is the name of the lieu dit in Fleurie. In 2017, after recieving her organic certification, she wanted to rename the wine and have a new label drawn to showcase the new chapter in her winemaking.
Despite the label and name change, Anne Sophie's approach to vinification is the same as vintages past. It is 100% destemmed and aged for around 13 months in 228L neutral oak barrels.
