Andrew Will has been a fixture on the Washington wine scene since the winery opened its doors in 1989. In 1994 they moved the operation to Vashon Island where they are still located. I am a huge fan of his wines and their ability to capture Washington State ripeness and character but with a decidedly Bordeaux-like inspiration.
The Champoux vineyard is a legendary source for top Bordeaux varieties, and this blend of 58% Merlot. 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 11% Cabernet Franc has lovely deep, dark fruit, cassis, plum, black tea, mocha, savory herbs and a balanced yet deeply layered core of fruit. Supple tannins and a nice touch of French oak keep it all balanced, allowing it to drink great now and most likely for a decade to come. Wine arrives tomorrow - cheers! Chris
95 Points Jeb Dunnuck - "From a top site located in the Horse Heaven Hills, the 2018 Champoux Vineyard checks in as 58% Merlot. 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 11% Cabernet Franc that spent 22 months in 35% new French oak. A beautiful bouquet of red and black currants, chocolate, cedary spice, and dried herbs gives way to a medium to full-bodied, rich, concentrated yet flawlessly balanced 2018. With ripe, velvety tannins, a round, layered texture, and a great finish, it can be enjoyed any time over the coming 15 years. This is another brilliant lineup of wines from Andrew Will. As I’ve written in the past, readers looking for classic, age-worthy Bordeaux blend can’t go wrong with these."
